Netflix confirmed on New Year’s Day that season three of the hit sci-fi series Stranger Things will return on July 4, and we now get a first look at the cast all grown up.
The streaming giant dropped the official trailer for the eight episode third season yesterday (Mar 20), showing the characters’ return to Hawkins, Indiana since the second season aired last October.
Given the US holiday release date, Independence Day celebrations feature prominently in the trailer as the gang contends with a new horrifying threat while on their summer vacation.
The trailer catches up with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Will (Noah Schnapp), and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who appear to have resumed their childhoods after the events of the first two seasons.
Interestingly, the trailer is set to Baba O’Riley by The Who, released in 1971, at least nine years before the 80’s setting of the series.
Since its debut in July 2016, Stranger Things is one of Netflix’s most popular original shows. The show follows a group of children who encounter an otherworldly creature in their hometown. The show deals with government conspiracies, alternate realities, and the challenges of growing up in the 80’s.
Stranger Things 3 will be released on Netflix on July 4 with eight episodes.
