Hong Kong actors Tony Leung and Andy Lau will reunite in a new blockbuster Goldfinger. The last time the two actors appeared on the big screen together was 18 years ago – for the Infernal Affairs trilogy.

Infernal Affairs screenwriter Felix Chong wrote the Goldfinger script to reunite the actors. Chong will also be directing this blockbuster backed by Emperor Motion Pictures and Chinese partners.

The movie is reportedly inspired by the rise and fall of the Carrian Group, a Hong Kong behemoth in the 1980s.

At the press conference on Saturday (Feb 20), the founder of Emperor Motion Pictures Albert Yeung divulged that HK$350 million (S$59.85 million) will be invested to produce this blockbuster.

“This is the highest budget in Hong Kong film history,” said Yeung. “I have a lot of expectations for this film to bring glory to Hong Kong films. I predict this will have the highest box office performance in Hong Kong film industry.”

Referring to his A-list cast, Yeung added, “You get what you pay for, but it’s really worth the investment. I believe there will be a good return.”

The Goldfinger cast also includes actors Simon Yam, Philip Keung, Charlene Choi, Alex Fong, Carlos Chan and Chin Ka-lok – some of whom also starred in the Infernal Affair Trilogy.

Reuniting with former cast members, Leung said, “It feels very familiar working with everyone. We’ve all work together all along – dramas, films, Infernal Affairs. We all keep in contact normally, we’re all good friends. I feel very excited. The story is very fascinating.”

Lau echoed Leung’s sentiment, he said, “All the memories are back.”
