Spider-Man: Far From Home projected to make S$677m globally by this weekend
The second movie in the franchise starring Tom Holland also took the record for highest ever opening on a Tuesday.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is climbing up the US box office with the highest ever opening on a Tuesday. With US$39.2 million (S$53.1 million), Sony says it also took the record for the highest single day gross on a Tuesday.
The second movie in the franchise starring Tom Holland as the web slinger was released on Tuesday (Jul 2) in time for the US Fourth of July holiday. The first was 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The studio is projecting that the latest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe could earn US$125 million in the US over the six-day holiday weekend, with some trackers saying the figure could go as high as US$150 million.
Outside the US, the movie made US$111 million from China and Japan with analysts projecting a global total as high as US$500 million (S$677 million) by this weekend.
The previous record for the highest single day takings belonged to Star Wars: The Force Awakens with US$37.3 million, while the previous record for the highest Tuesday opening was 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield with US$35 million.
Far From Home takes place after the events of the recent blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. Spider-Man’s alter-ego, Peter Parker, heads to Europe for a school trip, which gets interrupted by a visit from Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury asking for help.
Jake Gyllenhaal joins the cast as Mysterio, with Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalan and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from the first film.
